A Breastfeeding Peer Counselor may assist the WIC Lactation Consultant and other WIC staff as assigned by Site Supervisor or Breastfeeding Promotion Coordinator. A Breastfeeding Peer Counselor may be expected to work outside of the WIC Clinic environment, including making home or hospital visits to WIC clients, and may be assigned to work after regular clinic hours, including answering the Breastfeeding Afterhours Helpline during non-traditional work hours. A Breastfeeding Peer Counselor provides breastfeeding education, follow-up and basic clerical support relating to breastfeeding to promote WIC program operations.
